People in the twentieth century need more facilities to
support their life to connect with others. Connection with other people is a
very important thing in human life. At this time, people do it through social
network because it is faster and easier. One of those is Facebook. Yet,
Facebook not only allows us to associate with others in our life and gives us
more facilities, but it also gives some negative impacts that can harm us. As a
famous social network at this time, it offers advantages and
disadvantages for our lives.
Facebook helps us to connect with any person and do more
interaction. With it, people can do so many things. One of the advantages that
is given by Facebook is to expand interaction. On it, people can chat
with others who are far away and different place. So that, distance is no
longer a problem to do communication. People also can find their old friends or
even new friends. By typing the names, it will appear the picture and
information about them. Then, new friends can be found easily because Facebook
gives suggestion or related people with the user.
It also can be used as learning media for the user. Through
it, the user of Facebook can also discuss about a problem or anything else,
even making a forum in which it can be a media for the user to give their
opinion for a problem. Moreover, sharing news also can be done here. The
user can get news about friends, relatives, idols, etc. not only expanding
interaction and learning media, Facebook also can convey informations or
activities. Many people use it to promote their merchandises online. Those are
usually clothes, shoes, electronic goods, and so on. This facilitation really
helps online entrepreneur in doing business. On Facebook, people also can send
invitation for their friends a birthday party, wedding party, or celebration of
an event.
Eventhough there are many advantages that is given by
Facebook to people, nonetheless, it also gives disadvantages or even endangers
the user. Unconsciously, this social network can change people’s lifestyle.
Many people become addicted to Facebook. They waste their time for hours only
to watch screen of their PC. It absolutely can make them feel lazy to study,
work, or do something better. Even, it can reduce one’s interest to
socialize in real life with other people, families, and communities because the
user is only interested in people or new friends on Facebook.
The interests of people on Facebook certainly can harm
themselves. New friends that are known through Facebook can increase criminal
acts, such as abduction of teenagers. Nowadays, many teenagers are kidnapped by
strangers. Certainly, the abduction that happened gives negatives impacts to
the victim physically and mentally and make the parents suffer. Other criminal
act is deception. This act causes many people have been cheated and lost much
money.
In conclusion, although Facebook presents facilitation for
people such as expanding interaction, learning media, and conveying information
or activities, but it also offers bad influences for us. In my opinion, it is
so wise that we use it positively and appropriately. We absolutely have to keep
watching and do not forget our responsibilities. In short, Facebook will not be
a danger if we use it carefully.
